General Position Summary:
The material handler oversees the process of moving and distributing materials.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
Identifies, counts, transport, packs, removes and disposes of materials
Responsible for loading, unloading and moving materials
Follows work tickets and oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers are moved
Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, buckets, racks and shelves manually or using the forklift
Loads materials into vehicles
Secondary Functions:
Drives forklift, uses hand truck and/or pallet jack to move materials within the plant
Processes all incoming and outgoing material
Job Scope:
Performs duties independently with some supervision, operating from specific and definite directions and instructions. Decisions are of a routine nature made within prescribed operating guidelines, policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position is not supervisory in nature.
Interpersonal Contacts:
The most common internal contacts are with own department staff and own supervisor. Contacts are as a result of regular, on-going duties.
Specific Job Skills:
Forklift certified
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in shipping a plus. Six months to one-year experience in a manufacturing/production environment preferred. Able to stand for long periods of time. Able to communicate successfully with others. Ability to work independently in a team environment.
Job Conditions:
Must be able to perform lifting of up to 50 lbs. and routinely lift 25-30 lbs. Bend Several Times/Hour. Carry: 21-40 Lbs. Several Times/Day Twist: Several Times/Hour. Lift from Floor: 21-40 lbs. Several Times/Day. Sitting: 6-8 hours per day. Walking: 4+ hours per day. Standing: 6-8 hours per day. Repetitive use of hands: Simple grasping; pushing, pulling and twisting. Several Times/Hour.
